CJ Spiller, the most explosive player East of UC-Berkeley (Jahvid Best), would make a fine addition to our team.
He is the best return man in college football, has great hands, and is explosive. He would turn our moribund return game into one of the best in the NFL.
I expect us to be picking 8 - 12 and 16 - 20 (CAR and SF), and Spiller is expected to be a mid-first rounder.
We should, without question, take an offensive tackle with the first pick, but I think we should consider Spiller if he's there with our second pick,
Thoughts?

Clemson sucked this weekend, but Spiller did set the NCAA record for TD returns in a career (7) and become the fifth NCAA player to accumulate 7000 total yards in a career.

There is no question Spiller can help this team.
The question is will he help this team in the limited carries/returns that he'll get as opposed to a player who will be on the field for every offensive/defensive snap?
Personally i'd rather grab that stud OT or OLB and grab a return man later in the draft.

If we move to spread full time then spiller can become an important piece.

No matter what offense a team runs, one of the simular most important parts of the game is field position, that's why we punt after all. I would argue that if you have the chance to draft a player who can give you an average of say 10 yards better starting position on each punt that will vastly help your team. Add to that the fact that this player isn't soley a return man, he's a pretty good tailback as well.
He's worth a 1st round pick and he would fit on this team nicely.

with the 40 he'll run i would so use our carolina pick on him unless berry is there, hes the only guy i'll take over spiller. then with our own pick we take a rt

It seems that the top tackles may be gone before our 1st pick so I would be on the side of grabbing Spiller & then grab a tackle or trade back & get one.

yup time and time again theres proof you can find really good starting olinemen in the bottom of the 1st and the 2nd. i'll have no problems trading back if theres no playmaker available to us

I have to admit, I would love to see him on our team, even as a 1st round pick. Sure we got Gore and Coffee, but you can NEVER have enough play makers.
He would make an immediate impact on our team too as a returner. And maybe develop into some special packages for him, because he clearly can YAC it!

Holy Crap!!!
This is really the first time I have paid attention to Spiller at all and I came away seriously impressed to the point that I want him now. I was so wanting Maclin last year because of our need for talent, speed, a RS and a WR all into one. Now Spiller has even more value because of those wonderful hands of his. He is Mr. Versatility and Value!
He can become our new Return Specialist on both punts and kicks allowing us to start from better field position and jump start the team if both D and O aren't doing well. He is a threat to go the distance and with our rather young and speedy ST players, he would fit terrifically.
And that is just ST. Now add his skill set to this new "spread" offense and not only do we land a "Chris Johnson" type back, but we also get a mini WR. In a third down package with Walker, we can do some serious damage. Heck, he can take the ball directly from Smith, use an end-around, or split him wide as a receiver where the D will have a tuff time with all that talent and speed.
I remember last year how disappointed I was that we didn't get Maclin, but much happier because we landed Crabtree (still a steal!). Now, it looks like we have another chance at a great RS asset that has been missing here for sometime while giving Raye and Co. another talented weapon to wield. Of course it's given that Alex continues his success. I can see YAC up the ying yang with Davis, Crabtree, Gore, Hill, Jones, Morgan and now Spiller. Like I said when I first started this post, HOLY CRAP!!!
I am officially on this bandwagon...

If we miss out on Spiller, his teammate, Jacoby Ford, would be a great second option. Ford will rival Chris Johnson's 4.24. He's a great returner and would also be a great weapon in the spread.
Either way, we need some speed to help this spread along. I can see Ford stepping into a Johnny Knox-type of role for us. If you look at the value Knox added to the Bears as a deep threat and as a returner, he was one of the biggest steals of the draft.
