Pitching Rules
1) You must keep 2 RP on your roster at all times.

2) Regardless of Yahoo's position eligibilities, you can only start starting pitchers at starting pitcher, and you can only start guys who come out of the pen at RP. Guys like Jhoulys Chacin who have RP eligibility based on LAST YEAR cannot be used at RP unless they come out of the pen THIS YEAR.

3) You may only have a maximum of 8 starting pitchers on your team.

There are 5 SP spots, 1 flex P spot, and 5 total bench spots to be used on either hitters or pitchers. I'm going to assume that most people will have a starting pitcher at the flex spot, so that means you can have a maximum of 2 starting pitchers on your bench.

There is one DL spot. If you have a pitcher on the DL, that guy will not count toward your total of 8 starting pitchers.

Quote:

Please note the following conditions that apply to a player's position eligibility.

1. A player's position eligibility will not be adjusted prior to the beginning of the season. (If a player in spring training is playing "new" position, that position will not appear until a player has met the criteria for a change.)
2. Players will not lose eligibility at a previously established position at any time during the season. (For example, if a catcher-eligible player begins to play first base exclusively, he will remain eligible at catcher for the entire season.)
3. It is not possible to customize this setting within Custom Leagues. All leagues are subject to the same constraints.

Gaining eligibility at a new position:

If a position player makes five (5) starts or 10 total appearances at a new position during this season, he will become eligible to play that position in Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball.

Keeper Rules

1) You keep four players

2) The players you keep each have an assigned "keeper round" equal to the round in which they were originally drafted. If you keep a player you drafted in the 4th round the previous year, they will count as your 4th round pick next year. And so on.

3) If you keep a two players from the same 3rd round, those two players will count as your 3rd and 4th round picks next year. The same thing will happen if you keep any two players from the same round. The keeper round value of the two players will be the round, and round+1.

4) If you keep a player that went undrafted the previous draft, they will count as your last round (23rd round) pick the next year.

5) If you trade for a player during the season, their keeper round value will be based on the round they were drafted the previous draft.

6) If you pick up a player off waivers, their keeper round value will be based on the round they were drafted the previous draft, unless they went undrafted...and then see Rule 4.

7) If you decide to keep a player in subsequent years...the "keeper round" of the player will jump up as the original draft round divided by 2 (rounded).

Example: You drafted Gio Gonzalez in Round 12 in Year 1. His keeper value is as follows:

Year 2: 12th round
Year 3: 6th round
Year 4: 3rd round
Year 5: 1st round
Year 6: 1st round

8) There are exceptions to Rule 7.

Let's use ATG as an example. Assume he keeps Ryan Zimmerman (1st round) Adrian Gonzalez (2nd round) Jason Heyward (4th round) and Gio Gonazlez (12 round).

In Year 2: Zimmerman (1st), Gonzo (2nd), Heyward (4th), Gio (12th)
In Year 3: Zimmerman (1st), Gonzo (2nd), Heyward (3rd), Gio (6th).

Notice here that Heyward's keeper value does not follow Rule 7, which would state that his new keeper value would be round 2. But since Adrien Gonzalez is already occupying Round 2, Heyward's keeper round would remain at Round 3 until ATG decides not to keep Zimmerman or Gonzo.

Same with Gio Gonalez. In Year 4, if ATG keeps the same 4 players

In Year 4: Zimmerman (1st), Gonzo (2nd), Heyward (3rd), Gio (4th).

Therefore Rule 7 only applies when there aren't other keepers ahead of the player in question.

9) All other scenarios not specified in the keeper rules above will be determined at the commissioner's discretion.

I'm leaning toward H2H categories right now

But if enough people want to do H2H Points, I'd be for that as well.
I'm down for whatever.

Yes.

Are you sure about this because I remember you having difficult trying to set that league up.

You weren't able to change the point values assigned to each stat category.

And Yahoo does seem to have point leagues, but they might not be head to head.

Every team might accumulate points throughout the season and that's it, without ever facing anyone else head to head.

It's because everybody in my league is so specific...not to mention, I mentioned this after I set the original scoring. I think if you set a for sure H2H scoring method from the get go, we all should be set to go....from the names you mention in this league, its a solid group of fantasy baseball guys...we'll be alright.

The big problem was trying to change it after setting a specific scoring system that guys got adjusted to.

But is there a distinction between H2H categories and H2H points on yahoo? Because I think if you select the H2H option, it will automatically be categories instead of points.

I'm not 100% sure about that because I didn't try to set up a league yet.

Yahoo says they only have 2 different type of fantasy baseball leagues

A) Points Leagues. Where teams accumulate points but do not face off against each other head to head.

B) H2H. Where teams compete across categories.

Check with ATG. I could swear he found that Yahoo did have a point league for H2H.

Settings

-Head to Head Points
-Yahoo.com
-Webzone Draft
-4 Keepers however you when you keep a player you give up the draft pick in the round you drafted the player the previous year.
-4 max acquisitions per week
-1 day trade reject time
-Trade Deadline: not decided yet, sometime in August
-1 day waivers
-3 Divisions

Roster Positions
23 roster spots

Hitting (10): C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, CF, RF, Util, Util
Pitching (8): SP, SP, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, P
Bench (5): BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL

There are specific outfield spots (LF/CF/RF) instead of just 3 OF, because I don't think you can have a distinction between a 2B and a SS and not a have a distinction between the outfielders.

Scoring for Batting Categories
H: .75
1B, 2B, 3B, HR: 1-4
AB: -.25
BB: 1.5
SO: -.75
HBP: 1
R: 1
RBI: 1
SB: 2
CS: -1
GIDP: -1

Every single plate appearance has a specific value. If a batter gets....

A single (H+1B+AB) = 1.5 total points
A walk = 1.5 total points
A double (H+2B+AB) = 2.5 total points
A triple (H+3B+AB) = 3.5 total points
A home run (H+HR+AB) = 4.5 total points
A ground out, fly ball, or if the batter reaches base on a fielder's choice or error = - 0.25 total points
A strikeout (SO+AB) = -1 total point
A hit by pitch (HBP) = 1 total point

Examples:
0/7 with 5 strikeouts (Ryan Howard last year lol) = -5.5 points
0/5 with 1 strikeout = -2 points
2/4 with 2 singles, 2 runs, 2 RBI, 1 walk = 8 points
2/2 with 2 doubles, 3 runs, 3 walks = 12.5 points
3/5 with 2 home runs, 3 runs, 1 double, 4 RBI = 20 points
4/4 with 4 runs, 4 home runs, 6 RBI (Carlos Delgado in 2003) = 28 points.

Basically scoring for hitters daily will fluctuate between -6 (worst possible outing) and 30 points (historic day).

Explanation of pitching scoring.

I know it's counter-intuitive to have 2.5 points per inning pitched.

The reason it is like that is because with pitching scoring you lose points for every hit, walk, earned run, hit batter. Starting pitchers only accumulate positive points for a win, strikeout, or grounding a batter into a double play.

Therefore, the only way to balance pitching scoring with batter scoring is to give positive points to a pitcher for every perfect inning (3 up, 3 down).

You earn 2.5 points per perfect inning pitched. (3 up, 3 down)

If a pitcher has an inning where they walk a batter, give up a single, but get out of the inning with no more damage = 0.5 points for that inning.

If a pitcher gives up a double, and then a single which scores 1 earned run = -0.5 points for that inning.

If you have a pitcher who throws a perfect Game like Roy Halladay
May 29, @FLA, 9IP, 0ER, 0H, 0R, 11K, W = around 50 points

If you have a pitcher who has a Barry Zito-like meltdown:
August 28: Arizona, 7 ER, 3.2 IP, 6 H, 9R, 5BB = around -10 points

So the scale for pitchers is an extreme high of +50 points and an extreme low of -10 points.

Elite starters will average between 15-19 points per start in this set-up.

Since Elite Starters average around 33 starts, that means elite starting pitchers are worth between 500 and 630 points per season.

Pujols is worth between 660 and 700 points per season. Elite hitters are worth between 520 and Pujols.

So this gives a decent balance between hitters and pitchers.

Hitting Scale (per game): From -6 to +30 points

Starting Pitching Scale (per game): From -10 points to +50 points

Relief Pitcher Scale: From -10 points (Armando Benitez worst outing) to +10.5 points (a top closer striking out the side for the save).
