49ers sign Jerome Simpson to a 2-year deal

It's been a busy day for the San Francisco 49ers. According to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, the team has signed former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson to a two-year contract.

Simpson visited with the 49ers on Wednesday. He did not play last season. The Vikings released him in September as he was serving a suspension for violating the NFL's policy on substances of abuse.

In September of 2011, he was suspended by the Cincinnati Bengals after being charged with having two pounds of marijuana shipped to his home. He was also arrested in 2013 and charged with marijuana possession in July of 2014.

Simpson was drafted out of Coastal Carolina in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Bengals.

In 2013, he had 48 receptions for 726 yards with the Vikings.

By David Bonilla

The San Francisco 49ers are actively working to sign wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to a contract extension, aiming to maintain their talented young core of players. The team has reached agreements with star players during each of the last four offseasons, securing George Kittle in 2020, Fred Warner in 2021, Deebo Samuel in 2022, and Nick Bosa in 2023. Another key contributor poised for a new deal next offseason is quarterback Brock Purdy. Over the last couple of years, the 49ers have been in the unique position of not having to pay much money (relatively) to stock their quarterback room while reaping the benefits of superb play from their starting signal-caller.
